Virtual Reality & Advanced Interaction

Bringing information to life

While VR or AR were not used in the development of the product, it is a huge part of the product itself. Initially, there would be many more smaller hubs around the city. However, fewer hubs will make maintenance easier and cheaper, and It will be easier to convince the municipality and anyone else responsible to agree to placing these hubs. So, the hubs increased in size but decreased in number, and AR stickers were introduced to be used in locations with less space.

The user scans the sticker, and a visualisation of an old building, or pointers and highlights on an existing building will appear. For the child-friendly version of the tour, a kid from a specific time period also appears to talk to the users. We have also thought about adding AR to the hubs, but decided against it, to put more focus on the real object in front of the user. However, we do use movement and light instead.

To make doing a tour as easy as possible, we use phones instead of any specialized VR/AR equipment to achieve this. Currently, there is not that much interaction, except for walking around. This is mostly because the tour has a certain story that needs to be told, and everything needs to be shown at the right time.
