3D Visualisation

Final model in use context

This tool was used to get a feel of how the final model will look in context. A physical prototype would be impractical, due to its size and intended location. So, we made several versions of a solidworks model, using configurations. These were used in a unity program in which a camera is flying by and there is a first person perspective. We decided against having interaction, because that would need a working app in the program, which would take enormous amounts of time best used elsewhere. Initially, we also wanted to place a hub in a real place (virtually) like the Van Heekplein, however, there were no appropriate models of real places. Instead, we use a model of a small fictional German town.

In our final product, there are also parts that will need 3D development. The virtual side of the AR stickers will probably use 3D visualisation in most, if not all, cases. For example, at the sticker located at the city hall of enschede the child who is telling the story needs to be shown, as well as pointers or highlights to show what the tour is telling about the building. These parts are not finalized, but will probably incorporate 2D layers within a 3D location. Other stickers will activate a model of buildings that used to be in a location, so these models definitely need 3D visualisation in the future.
