Synthetic Prototype Environment

Individual Project

With Industry 4.0 (I4.0) being one of the developments that the rapidly changing world offers, an increasing amount of factories strive for manufacturing resources that are digitalised and connected. But moving towards a different production environment is difficult and risky. Together with the Fraunhofer Project Centre (FPC), the University of Twente has started the Smart Industry Testbed project. The project tries to realize an environment that is able to deal with the unpredictability and risks of change.

By connecting a 3-axis carving machine (X-Carve) below a table to a construction with an electromagnet, (magnetic) object(s) can be moved over the table. With Unity3d, a user friendly application was developed that allows the system to be controlled digitally. With the system connecting the physical and the digital world, a base is created for a synthetic prototype environment that is to support the decision making process of moving towards I4.0.
