Team Project

Creating the future of "gathering food"

When people live, they use energy. This means they have to take energy in order to get energy out. This energy is what we call food. The concept of obtaining food has evolved with society over time. First people had to take care of their own food. They had to search for it, hunt it or gather the food. Later, people began to grow and produce their own food by farming.

After taking care of their own food, people began to sell their food on the market or in a separate store. You could get meat at the butcher, bread at the bakery, and fruits at the greengrocer. Eventually, this became more and more centralized and evolved into what we now know as the supermarket. The supermarket is convenient since everything is in the same place.

Society evolves in its turn with technology. The need for efficiency becomes greater and greater, which leads to the relatively new self-scan checkouts. There are no signs that the need for efficiency is slowing down so the question is, what is next? Robots running the supermarket, or will there even be a physical supermarket in the future?

During the duration of this course, this issue was explored and by using scenario exploration techniques, the group worked towards one future scenario for which a system is developed. Please contact me for a report on this project.
