We designed a product to digitise the tradition of buying fresh food directly from the farm, while keeping its charm and community feeling.

We give the farmers a special Roots box. A box which keeps their food fresh and protected from the elements and environment. The box has the option to cool its inner environment, this to increase the quality and shell life of the products.  The box has recognisable elements, therefore buying products from a farm adds to the whole experience of buying via Roots, which also works the other way around.

To find the selling points we developed an app including a map of all the farms. Users can search the produce they want to buy, or discover their current area with the map. Using the app the users can learn what is sold in their neighborhood or to plan an entertaining and relaxed outing.  

The addition of the digital payment option, causes the farm sale to adjust to the standards of current world. Here carrying cash isn’t obvious anymore. Users can pay with their phone, using ideal or a banking app which most people already use these days. Paying with cash also remains an option, this to not exclude parts of the targetgroup.

Lastly with the app we try to create an active community. Users can follow their favorite farms, can see updates of the current stock, leave questions and comments for the farmers and help each other out.
The farmers get information on what was sold when and have the option to be closer connected to the users who buy their products.

Vision

At Roots we believe that it is important to know the origin of your food. Growing up with supermarkets and processed foods, people often forget how much effort it takes to grow the food we all eat. Therefore we want to enable farmers, both small and big, to share their products and pride with a broad public.

Food has the power to connect people and even create communities. With the community we created we hope people get to know their neighbourhood and feel closer connected with each other.

 

As a company we acknowledge our influence on the environment around us. For this reason, we strive to be minimise our environmental footprint. With the help of our design, transport and image, together we make a difference to have the least impact on the environment.

 

By creating more awareness of where food comes from, we hope to help people to make more environmental friendly choices.
