Past projects

During the study, I have done multiple projects, of which some examples are shown below. These projects are often done in a group of students.

Diabetes waste
Diabetes waste

During the minor, I did a Scientific Challenge. A duo project focussing on research about a self-selected topic; the waste of diabetics and how the environmental impact can be reduced. This concluded in a support product for a new recycling system of the main manufacturer of disposable insulin pens, where we helped to facilitate the collection in nursing homes.

Scoliosis spine prototype
Scoliosis prototype

This minors-project focussed on the modeling of a patient-specific prototype of a scoliosis spine. Before the surgery that is often necessary to treat severe cases of the condition, it is hard to predict the outcome. To make this insightful, I worked on the development a prototype that could simulate the movement of the spine.

Medication reuse
medication waste

Every year, a lot of medication is disposed while there is nothing wrong with the product itself. Due to regulations, boxes that are handed out, even when they are still closed, are not allowed to be sold again. During this project, we looked for ways to get this medication back into the system to prevent waste of resources and pollution.

Co-design with specific users
Specific users

Together with a participant on the autistic spectrum, we co-designed a solution to her over-sensitivity to indoor lights. There was a constant struggle adjusting the lights and the curtains in the house, so an electronic device was made that automatically adjusts the curtains and lightning indoors, and is user friendly if manual changes need to be made.

Headphones
Headphones

In the consumer products project, there was an assignment from a company to redesign their main selling product, the headphones, to be more suitable for their target group while also paying attention to the environmental impact of the product. A multidisciplinary was applied in the project, working together with mechanical engineering and industrial engineering and management students.

Food kiosk
Food kiosk

At a specific park in Enschede, there was a need for a food kiosk. With the use of interviews and questionnaires, we had to find the design and sold foods that would fit the market best. This resulted in a poké bowl stand that also met the requirements that a public space asks for.

Sketches

I really enjoy sketching, it started with trying to draw as realistically as possible as a hobby, and evolved as I learned more during the study regarding design sketching. During the study, I have also assisted students with their Design Sketching classes by providing feedbacks and tips how they can improve their sketching as well.

Design sketching

These are some presentation sketches and some ideation that were made during the past 3 years of the study.

Also digital drawing was part of the Design Sketching course, where SketchBook Pro was used for visualizing final concepts.

In my free time, I also like to draw. I have always had an interest in drawing as realistically as possible using colored pencils and pastels.

Renders

Using SolidWorks, these renders are made, creating a realistic visualisation of final products.

For many projects, also prototypes were made to get a more realistic representation of the products and more insight in the realisation.
