Design challenge

Design challenge 1

The first design challenge is defined after the first meeting with our co-designer. Before this meeting it was still unclear what the problems were and what kind of solution/design had to be found. The most important information obtained from this meeting was that the co-designer has different eye symptoms and that multiple glasses are needed to treat these symptoms. Therefore, it is stated in the first design challenge that just one pair of glasses should be designed to counter all these symptoms in one go.

‘’The design challenge is to design one pair of glasses that can be customized, so it can be adjusted to help with different symptoms and it can be adjusted for different circumstances.’’

Design challenge 2

The second design challenge was drawn up after the interactive co-design meeting. After this interactive session it became even clearer what kind of design had to be made and a list of requirements was drawn up. Due to the more detailed knowledge of the problem and the interactive design process with the Co-designer, it is possible to specify the Design Challenge a bit more. It is now clear what kind of mechanisms must be present in the design to tackle the symptoms in just one pair of glasses.

‘’Design one pair of glasses that can be customized in different circumstances including:

              – A mechanism that ensures the different types of lenses can be worn at the same time
              – A mechanism that ensures the flexible eye cap can be put on and taken of the glasses’’

Design challenge 3

The third and final Design Challenge is fully based on the feelings and expectations of the Co-designer herself. The project is called ‘Designing for a specific user’ and that is why the Co-designer’s findings are ultimately the most important. The Co-designer thought the most important things were that eventually there would be a design that would allow her to walk on the street and at work, without being alienated. And it was also very important that there is a product that ensures that she does not have to worry about the changes in her symptoms and then which glasses to use or to buy.

‘’Design a product that is of great value to the specific user that ensures she can continue life without worrying about changing symptoms/glasses and feeling alienated from society’’
